PlayStation has decided to shut down Dark Outlaw Games

It’s another dark day for the video game industry. Following more than 1,000 layoffs at Epic Games, it’s once again PlayStation’s turn to part ways with one of its studios.

Founded in March 2025 by Jason Blundell, a former lead on Call of Duty’s Zombies mode, Dark Outlaw Games will close its doors without having released a single game. Previously, Blundell led Deviation Games, another studio that closed in 2024 when Sony chose to withdraw funding from the teams.

In addition, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier reported that PlayStation has laid off staff from its mobile gaming division. In total, around 50 people were let go.

Since the release of the PS5, PlayStation has shut down Japan Studio, PixelOpus, Firewalk Studios, Neon Koi, London Studio, Bluepoint Games, and now Dark Outlaw Games.
