PlayStation Going Back to Exclusive Games as PC Push Fails – Rumor

PlayStation exclusive games

Rumors have been swirling for a while that Sony is reconsidering its PC strategy and leaning towards PlayStation exclusive games again. This time, however, we have credible journalists and insiders lending credence to these rumors, noting that PC sales of PlayStation Studios‘ games aren’t selling enough to justify multiplatform launches.

Sony first-party single-player games may become PlayStation exclusive again

Journalist Jason Schreier and Digital Foundry’s John Linneman are among the trusted voices who have claimed that Sony is reconsidering its approach to PlayStation exclusivity for single-player games.

To be clear, this doesn’t mean that Sony is pulling the plug on PC. Expect first-party multiplayer games to continue launching on multiple platforms. However, between lackluster PC sales of its single-player games and witnessing the response to Xbox going multiplatform, we reckon that Sony has good reason to reconsider its approach.

Schreier’s comments were made in a new episode of the Triple Click podcast. When ResetEra users suggested that he was merely speculating, Schreier claimed that he wasn’t.

“It’s not speculation, but sometimes topics come up on the show before I’m quite ready to publish a story about them,” the Bloomberg journalist wrote. “More to come soon, I’m sure.”

Considering Schreier’s track record, we think something is happening behind the scenes. The question is, how will this change impact Nixxes, who Sony acquired specifically to port games to PC?

We’ll update our readers when we have more information.
