Parasite Mutant Is a Parasite Eve-Inspired Sci-Fi Horror RPG

Developer IceSitruuna has announced Parasite Mutant, a sci-fi horror RPG that draws clear inspiration from Parasite Eve. From its gameplay structure to its aesthetic, the similarities to Square’s 1998 cult classic are hard to miss, even the protagonist is a blonde, short-haired agent.

In Parasite Mutant, you play as Psionic Agent Nova, sent on a mission to an abandoned island city now overrun by mutant monstrosities. As Nova progresses, she can upgrade her equipment using Plus Points earned in battle. The game will also feature a New Game+ mode, letting players start over with previously earned Plus Points to uncover new locations and challenges.

Key Features of Parasite Mutant

Here’s what to expect thanks to the game’s Steam page.

Combat System

Parasite Mutant uses ATC (Active Time Chains) which combines the popular Active Time Battle system used in RPGs of the late-90s and a 3-segment chain system. Players will need to time their actions on each segments and decide whether they want to save their energy and do a chain release.

Art Style

Parasite Mutant uses a semi-realistic anime art style and utilizes modern rendering techniques to give our players a HD visual experience. Additionally, we have introduced a retro filter and CRT filter to bring players back that late-90s to 2000s vibe.

Setting

Parasite Mutant is a survival horror game with a diverse array of horrifying mutants. In the game, players will solve various puzzles in search of answers and maybe uncover the horrifying secret of this universe.

Level Up System

Parasite Mutant uses the classic equipment progression system. Players can attach various modules onto their equipment, or enhance their equipment using Plus Points that can be obtained through combat.

New Game+

Parasite Mutant has a New Game+ mode that allows players to inherit Plus Points from their previous playthrough. The New Game+ mode unlocks new locations where players have to continue to strengthen themselves and complete the final challenge.

Outfit System

You will be able to change hairstyles, hair colors, outfits, and more.

A Successor Fans Wanted

It’s almost surprising that no one has attempted a true Parasite Eve-style successor until now. With its mix of tactical combat, horror atmosphere, and RPG progression, Parasite Mutant looks set to capture the spirit of the original while carving out its own identity. But time will tell, as it’s not entirely clear what sets it apart, but having none might not be a bad thing, considering that there’s no word of any Parasite Eve revival from Square Enix at all.
