NVIDIA presents DLSS 5 and promises a major leap forward in terms of graphics

It was at GTC 2026 that NVIDIA finally announced DLSS 5. This new version will focus on delivering greater visual fidelity through AI-powered image generation.

NVIDIA describes DLSS 5 as “the company’s most significant breakthrough in computer graphics since the debut of real-time ray tracing in 2018”. Here, a real-time neural rendering model applies photorealistic lighting and details to every pixel. The goal here is very ambitious, as it aims to bridge the gap with cinema.

Games like Resident Evil Requiem, Hogwarts Legacy, and Starfield are used as examples. We can see the characters’ faces being completely transformed by DLSS 5. The appearance is certainly more realistic, but the AI rendering is extremely pronounced. It’s no surprise that internet users are deeply divided on the matter.

Compatible games

  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows
  • Starfield
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Resident Evil Requiem
  • Delta Force
  • NARAKA: BLADEPOINT
  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered

Several companies in the video game industry, including Capcom, Bethesda, Ubisoft, NetEase, Warner Bros. Games, and Tencent, will support DLSS 5. The system will be capable of real-time 4K, but we don’t yet know which architectures will support the technology.

In its trial, the YouTube channel Digital Foundry notes that it used two RTX 5090s to run the demo. NVIDIA has, however, clarified that DLSS 5 will run on a single RTX 50 GPU upon its release in the fall of 2026.
