You know what helps when you are being called out for making something that is almost universally derided and crap? Telling everyone they are wrong. Works every time that does, it’s by far the best response.
To catch you up, Nvidia demoed DLSS 5 a few days ago and pretty much everyone said it looked like a pile of AI pants, with many comparing it to an AI Instagram beauty filter.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was questioned about the criticism and said, “Well, first of all, they’re completely wrong,”
“The reason for that is because, as I have explained very carefully, DLSS 5 fuses the controllability of the of geometry and textures and everything about the game with generative AI. It’s not post-processing, it’s not post-processing at the frame level, it’s generative control at the geometry level,”
“All of that is in the control — direct control — of the game developer,” he adds, “This is very different than generative AI; it’s content-control generative AI. That’s why we call it neural rendering.”
He then went on to suggest that developers could use the tech to create toon shaders or make characters look like they are made of glass. Not really helping with the Instagram filter comparison there, Jensen.
Insider Gaming report that developers from some of the studios that are supporting the tech found out about it at the same time as everyone else. They also report that developers at Capcom are quite shocked, given the publisher’s strong anti-AI stance.
