DLSS 5 has sparked heated debate on forums and social media since its announcement this Monday. Many have strongly criticized the AI-generated appearance of characters and environments rendered using this new technology.
However, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang dismissed these criticisms outright. During a Q&A session at GTC 2026, he stated that gamers are “completely wrong” and that their fears are “unfounded”.
“Well, first of all, they’re completely wrong. The reason for that is because, as I have explained very carefully, DLSS 5 fuses controllability of the of geometry and textures and everything about the game with generative AI.”
Huang also explains that developers will choose how to refine character models to match their desired artistic direction. Studios will be able to experiment with different rendering styles (stylized or photorealistic), depending on the type of game they’re developing.
