Nintendo continues to tease and drop information without much explanation, and today, theyâve dropped an animated short titled Close To You.
The new Nintendo animated short doesnât have any information attached to it, it just exists. With a video description that just reads âClose To You,â the video is a four-minute-long Nintendo-branded adventure that shows a small toddler playing near what appears to be their mother. Things get a little far-fetched when the pacifier starts to seemingly float on its own, and the toddler gives chase with the cheering mother in the background. As the mother catches the stumbling child near the end, the Nintendo logo is emblazoned on screen.
During the entire production, no named Nintendo characters appear on screen, although the graphical quality resembles what could be seen in a Pixar or Dreamworks film. Whatâs also interesting is no Nintendo items, nor a screen, can be seen in the entire length of the animated short. The animated short can be seen below.
While it appears to be a standalone animated short (with music that feels inspired by Pikmin in the background), this hasnât stopped the internet from churning the rumour mill. Over on Reddit, fans have claimed this is the baby version of Rosalina, for the previously leaked Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel title that claimed to be Galaxy-based.
The main theory for fans on Reddit is that the baby featured in Close To You is Rosalina, and the invisible entity wielding the pacifier is a star. Another theory is that it could be a promo for the new line of childrenâs toys, My Mario, but no Nintendo images or screens appear in the short. Another theory is the small creature that can be seen scurrying across the floor while the baby is slamming its hands on the chair (at timestamp 1:39) is a Red Pikmin. It canât be confirmed, though.

While speculation is fun, the only things currently confirmed about Close To You are that it is from Nintendo, it has impressive animation quality, the music in the background sounds like Pikmin, the toddler resembles Super Mario Galaxyâs Rosalina, and thatâs pretty much it. Fans should take all other suggestions with a grain of salt until Nintendo announces something further regarding this mysterious video.
