Grand Theft Auto: Vice City launched all the way back in 2002 but it’s still going strong in 2025.
This is largely due to Grand Theft Auto VI of course as Vice City will make its modern-day return and even have its borders expanded into the fictional state of Leonida. As the trailers suggest it’s based on real-life Florida.
Aside from Rockstar Games’ next big game though GTA: Vice City remains alive and well through a next-gen version of the game found on PC.
You of course need a copy of GTA: Vice City to play it but that’s easily acquired, then you can jump into a beautifully remastered Grand Theft Auto game that’s being updated all the time.
The modpack does a little bit of everything for the game from updated visuals, speedier loading times, all the bits you’d expect from a modern day port.
GTA: Vice City did of course receive a remaster alongside Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas but as I’m sure you’ll all remember it was picked apart by both fans and critics alike. It’s a lot better now since it’s been updated a bit.
This PC version of the game seems to be an improvement though and it’s even been updated with the map from GTA: San Andreas.

Now you’ll be able to re-explore a wealth of iconic Grand Theft Auto locations before GTA VI comes out.
A lot of work has gone into this next-gen modpack and it’s the closest we’ll be getting to an actual remaster of the game, as it seems Rockstar would rather re-use the locations seen in the game than bring back the games outright.
The Return Of Liberty City
All of this has me wondering when we’ll see Liberty City again, the setting for Grand Theft Auto IV.
Rumour has it that GTA IV will be remastered soon but personally I doubt it. Other rumours claimed the city would be featured as a DLC for Grand Theft Auto: Online and that never happened.
In all likelihood and given the pattern we’ve seen from Rockstar Games in recent years I’d imagine the next time we’ll see Liberty City will be Grand Theft Auto VII, which is obviously years and years away.
I’d love it if the next game takes us to an entirely new location but I don’t think Rockstar will be able to resist revisiting another one of its classic settings…

It’s great to see that Vice City is still being updated and remains popular after all these years! The addition of San Andreas is an exciting development for fans. Looking forward to seeing how this evolves in the future!
Absolutely! It’s impressive how the game has adapted to new technology while keeping its classic charm. The addition of San Andreas really adds to the nostalgic experience for long-time fans.
