A new PS5 action game is out today, and it is seeing divisive reviews for a new game in a beloved franchise.
What new PS5 game is out now?
Carmageddon: Rogue Shift, the newest entry in the Carmageddon franchise, is out today. Originally released in 1997, Carmageddon is a vehicular combat franchise. Like its name suggests, the games largely feature players racing other vehicles in different settings while fighting to try and damage the other cars in the race as much as possible.
The newest entry, Rogue Shift, incorporates a roguelite take on the iconic vehicular-combat series. Much like its name implies, Rogue Shift will blend the action and chaos of the original Carmageddon series with a roguelite twist.
On OpenCritic, the review aggregating platform, the game doesn’t have a score yet, but it has garnered some early praise. On our sister site, ComingSoon, Tyler Treese scored the game an 8 out of 10, saying that it “takes a few runs to really shift into gear, but once you’re using better vehicles and upgraded weapons, it gets quite fun.”
GameSpew’s Richard Seagrave also had mostly praise for the game, but did note some detractions from it. In his review, which scored the game a 7, he noted “the core gameplay is fun, but Carmageddon: Rogue Shift is ultimately let down by its near non-existent event variety.”
On the more negative side, Insider Gaming’s Michael Straw criticized the game’s controls and game modes in his 5 out of 10 review of the game. “At times, it works and can be fun. Unfortunately, frustrating driving controls, response issues, lackluster AI, and repetitive race types and boss fights hold this game back in ways that’ll disappoint long-time fans,” Straw wrote.
