Larian Studios kept the nature of the mysterious statue displayed before The Game Awards completely secret, to the point that neither PlayStation nor Xbox knew it represented their new game Divinity, said studio CEO Swen Vincke.
The statue served as a teaser for Divinity, the ambitious upcoming RPG from the studio behind Baldur’s Gate 3, which was unveiled during the ceremony. According to Vincke, the platforms only learned of the game’s existence at the time of its reveal, and Larian has yet to officially discuss licensing with them. The studio wanted the campaign to remain a complete secret, but trademark information had already leaked prior to the event. This strategy was intended to create organic buzz around the project, although it was partially anticipated by some observers.
Divinity marks Larian’s return to a series that predates even Baldur’s Gate, with big ambitions. The studio now hopes to develop its relationship with platforms to plan future versions of the game.
