Monster Hunter Wilds’ Excessive DLC Checks Impact PC Performance, But Only in One Specific Area

These days, it feels like a light breeze could be blamed for Monster Hunter Wilds’ performance issues on PC. So to hear that the game’s aggressive DLC checks were one such reason was bizarre. Thanks to Digital Foundry’s analysis, however, it seems there’s some truth to this, but it’s not what you think.

The frame drops occur only in a hub, that too when near the Support Desk Felyne, who checks your DLC ownership. The outlet tested out the original poster’s “Less DLC Checks” mod and reported improved performance on a Ryzen 5 3600 CPU. At 1440p resolution on Ultra settings with ray tracing and DLSS set to Balanced mode, they report an 11.4 percent increase in frames.

At the lowest settings with DLSS on Ultra Performance and no ray tracing, there was a 25.6 improvement in performance. Regardless, there are no benefits to the actual gameplay loop, i.e. venturing out and hunting monsters. It’s also a PC-exclusive issue, which probably won’t make it in the next round of marketing.

We’re still waiting for Capcom to address it, though, so stay tuned for more details on that front. If it’s any consolation, a Switch 2 version of Wilds is allegedly in development, which could introduce low graphics options for PC. Any port in a storm, as they say.
