Anyone that’s visited the site for a while will know that Monster Hunter is my jam. If you popped me on a desert island, with one game – or, greedily, one game series – it would have to be Monster Hunter, with its loop of hunting down massive, increasingly angry creatures, and then chopping it into bits to make new gear to hunt bigger, sillier creatures, is one that will never get old. The most recent addition to the series came from spin-off JRPG Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, and while it’s more than capable of putting up plenty of challenge, the team at Capcom have decided to introduce even harder monsters into the mix, to give players even more to think about.
The short announcement was delivered by Stories 3 producer, Ryozo Tsujimoto, and sees him thanking those players who’ve already hopped into the game, stating that they’ve been reading all of the feedback and praise from the community, and that it’s left them feeling energised and encouraged. Seemingly, they’ve settled on the fact that players want tougher monsters to fight in the endgame, so they’re making the addition of Royal Monsters, a batch of incredibly powerful foes that will need serious commitment to bring down.
Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection launched on the 13th of March for PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox Series consoles, and is arguably the new high point for the spin-off turn-based series. In our review I said, “Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection is the best entry in the spin-off series yet, with gorgeous artwork, impeccable world-building, and an excellent Monster Hunter tale to tell. I can’t imagine a better gateway to the world of Monster Hunter than this.”
There’s currently no release date set for this free update, but in the meantime, there’s already a wealth of content and extremely challenging battles to get into in Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection. Or, you can just spend all your time hatching eggs and messing with the Monstie’s genes. Which, I may have done.
