A big announcement at Minecraft Live this year, Mojang and development partner Double Eleven have announced that Minecraft Dungeons II is coming later in 2026. In the works for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, and PC, it will naturally be launching day one into some parts of Xbox Game Pass.
The trailer blurb reads:
A hero’s work is never done! Disorder is brewing, and the world stands before a threat unlike any other. A new danger is growing in power, ready to descend upon the land and unleash mayhem.
Return to the world of Minecraft Dungeons in an all new action RPG adventure, brimming with high stakes encounters, thrilling challenges, and never before seen locations, as you set out to save a world in crisis. Will you and your allies prevail against the forces of evil and save the day once more?
There’s already a few little hints of the game’s story within the trailer, as you can see the hub area from the first game is now burning and the Ancient City portal is functional, but aside from that, it’s just a slickly rendered announcement trailer.
What’s more important is to see how Minecraft Dungeons 2 looks to expand and improve on the first game. The original launched in the middle of 2020, putting a new twist on the blocky Minecraft universe by blending it with the dungeon crawling of Diablo. It’s fair to say that it didn’t really feature much of the crafting and creativity of the main Minecraft game, so perhaps more of those elements could be integrated? Either way, the action RPG battling and loot gathering is always a good time, especially with friends and family.
In our Minecraft Dungeons review, Dom wrote, “Minecraft Dungeons could easily have been “My First Dungeon Crawler”, but it’s so much more than that. It does a great job of taking the genre’s hooks – the waves of enemies, the pervasive drive for better loot – and makes them palatable and approachable for a wide-ranging audience. It’s perfect family gaming, but if you crank the difficulty up prepare for an epic beatdown, and the epic rewards to go with them.”
