There’s another potential mass layoff looming on the horizon at Microsoft. A recent report from the TipRanks web mentions a wave of layoffs that could see several thousand people lose their jobs.
Between 11,000 and 22,000 employees (between 5% and 10% of the global workforce) could be laid off during the third week of January 2026. This would affect the Azure cloud, gaming (Xbox, Bethesda, Activision, etc.) and sales sectors.
Microsoft may have made this decision due to the increase in costs related to artificial intelligence. The American giant wants to invest $80 billion in AI systems in 2026. Thus, the company could therefore redirect its investments to salaries in this sector, which is considered more stable.
Of course, all this has yet to be confirmed. For now, it remains a rumor.
