Masters Of The Universe Trailer Looks Like A Nostalgic Action Romp

After being teased on January 21st, 2025, the official trailer was released for the upcoming movie based on He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and it looks to be channelling the 80s in spectacular fashion.

Released at 9 AM (EST) on the official Amazon MGM Studios YouTube page, Masters of the Universe looks to be a bit of a love-letter to the iconic 80’s cartoon. Directed by Travis Knight—director of Bumblebee and Kubo and the Two Strings—the film sees Prince Adam, played by Nicholas Galitzine, living in a modern-day version of the real world, where the He-Man cartoon may hold some secret to his true identity.

According to the official synopsis for the film, after being separated for 15 years, the Sword of Power leads Prince Adam back to Eternia, where he discovers his home shattered under the fiendish rule of Skeletor. To save his family and his world, Adam must join forces with his closest allies, Teela and Duncan/Man-At-Arms, and embrace his true destiny as He-Man—the most powerful man in the universe.

The cast of Masters of the Universe also includes:

  • Jared Leto as Skeletor
  • Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-At-Arms
  • Camila Mendes as Teela
  • Kristen Wiig as the voice of “Roboto”
  • Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn
  • James Purefoy as King Randor
  • Morena Baccarin as Sorceress
  • Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Malcolm/Fisto
  • Charlotte Riley as Queen Marlena

The trailer shows Masters of the Universe leaning into its 80s aesthetic in a similar fashion to Thor: Ragnarok. The costume design is almost identical to the over-the-top designs of the cartoon, and the action appears high-octane and fun. Skeletor looks particularly impressive thanks to modern-day visual effects—a far cry from the Masters of the Universe film from 1987.

Masters of the Universe will debut in theatres on June 5th, 2026, in the US, distributed by Amazon MGM Studios. International distribution is handled by Sony Pictures International Releasing.
