Mass Effect: Legendary Edition Just Got a Massive New Update

Mass Effect fans can now enjoy a new patch for the game, but only if you’re playing on one specific platform.

The Mass Effect series has lay dormant for quite some time, but we know that EA is quietly working on Mass Effect 5. It’s just a matter of being patient enough for it.

In the meantime, we can at least put multiple playthroughs into Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, which remains an excellent remaster of the original trilogy.

If you need a reason to revisit those games, the Mass Effect Community Patch team has just released a new unofficial update for the collection, bringing new fixes and changes for players to install.

The new Community Update 1.8 concerns the LE1 Community Patch, which is a simple mod that squashes certain bugs for the first Mass Effect game in the Legendary Edition.

The main focus for this mod is to fix issues and bugs that may have been leftover from the original release of the game, or were introduced in the Legendary Edition, without changing the initial design by BioWare.

There are quite a lot of changes in this update, but we’ll list some highlights. For starters, the mod now uses Mod Manager 9 2DA merge format, enabling greater compatibility with the game.

As for in-game changes, certain tweaks have been made to companions Ashley and Kaiden. Ashley now has a proper visor when in full breather mode, while Kaidan’s in-combat hair mesh has been altered to prevent his hair from clipping through helmets.

Some fixes to movement have also been made in this patch. A bug that caused jog animations to trigger when the walk toggle command was enabled has been fixed, as has an issue where running upstairs during a fight in the Lower Markets on the Citadel would cause enemies to stop and stand still.

Other fixes include sniper rifle camera sensitivity multiplier no longer persisting after being scoped in, as well as some tweaks to the mod menu settings to be more consistent.

However, there are far more changes present in the patch that it’s worth checking out the full patch notes on the mod page. You can download the mod from ModDB, where it includes instructions on how to install it for your game.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition was released back in 2021, and is a compilation of all three games that make up the Mass Effect trilogy made by BioWare between 2007 and 2012.
