This is the conclusion of the annual survey conducted by the Game Developers Conference. The institution surveyed more than 2,300 professionals in the sector worldwide about layoffs affecting the gaming industry.
The results have now been published, and they are clear! First of all, 17% of those surveyed said they had been laid off in the past year and 11% in the previous 12 months. This represents a total of 28% over two years.
Furthermore, among those who were laid off, approximately 48% have not yet found a new job. Furthermore, 36% of developers who were laid off two years ago are currently unemployed.
Finally, 47% of the companies surveyed do not plan to lay off any employees in the next 12 months, 30% do not know, and 23% intend to lay off some of their staff. An American student studying video game design was quick to point out that “there are no jobs” and that “everyone is getting fired. It’s shit.”
