It is a sad day for Prince of Persia fans. Game developer and publisher Ubisoft announced that its long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake has been canceled along with five other games. Additionally, one of its other rumored remakes has possibly been delayed.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake canceled
In a recent press release from Ubisoft, the company announced a major organizational, operational, and portfolio reset that is designed to renew “the Group’s trajectory toward sustainable growth and robust cash generation.” In refocusing its portfolio, the company canceled six games, one of which is the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, as well as four unannounced titles, which included three new IP’s and a mobile game.
Ubisoft also announced that seven games have been delayed to “ensure enhanced quality benchmarks are fully met and maximize value creation.” This will include an unannounced game that was planned for the 2026 fiscal year, which has now been delayed to 2027 fiscal year.
According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier in a Bluesky post, one of those delayed games was the rumored Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake.
The delays and cancellations were made in order to “refocus” Ubisoft’s portfolio over the next three years. Specifically, the company will focus on open-world games and GaaS (games as a service) experiences.
“In the context of a persistently more selective market as illustrated by the last quarter, and as part of the finalization of the Group’s new operating model, Ubisoft has conducted a thorough review of its content pipeline over December and January,” Ubisoft shared in a statement. “This has led to the strategic decision to refocus its portfolio, reallocate resources and comprehensively revise its roadmap over the next three years. This will support the objective to return to exceptional levels of quality on the Open-World Adventure segment and step-change the Group’s position in the GaaS-native experiences segment, as illustrated by the recently acquired project, March of Giants. The reshaped portfolio is designed to best position the Creative Houses for success.”
It was reported back in November that the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake would be coming soon. Unfortunately for fans of the series, that is no longer the case.
