Ditto learns a lot of moves from his newfound friends in Pokémon Pokopia, but as neat as Water Gun and Leafage are, sometimes you just need a little help getting around the blocky world. At the start of the game, you can clamber up a single block to reach higher places, but Ditto can’t jump… yet!
How do you jump in Pokémon Pokopia?
Jumping in Pokémon Pokopia uses the ‘R’ shoulder button to hop around, which is a little unusual, but you can’t jump at the start of the game..
The ability to jump in Pokémon Pokopia comes, as with all Ditto’s other abilities, from making friends with other Pokémon and then learning the move from them. But jumping from a rather unusual source: a Magikarp!
Where is Magikarp in Pokopia?
You can find Magikarp in the first region of the game, Withered Wasteland. You need to reach a beach seaside spot here, and will need to have previously learned Rock Smash.
Starting from the Pokémon Centre, facing away from its entrance and going straight. You’ll head through the opening area where you met Squirtle and Bulbasaur, down some steps and into a cave. Your path here is blocked by some vines and brown ground. Use Rock Smash to punch through and reach the seaside.
Here you’ll find a little jetty or dock, a ruined building with a workbench, and you might notice a speech bubble crying out for some help – “Yo, where am I?” It’s Magikarp splashing around!
How to get Magikarp to teach you to jump
Magikarp just wants somewhere nice to live, it turns out, and that means completing a habitat for them to hang out by. Magikarp would like an Ocean Fishing Spot.
This habitat needs a fishing rod and a stool, and would you know it? There’s a fishing rod right nearby already, and a workbench where you can craft a simple log chair from a wood log (which you hopefully have in your inventory, but you can use Cut on log piles on the jetty to get some too). Place this next to the fishing rod and Magikarp will flop on over and express some delight. Talk to Magikarp once more and they will teach you how to jump.
Congrats, now you can bounce around the world as much as you want? Of course, the true freedom comes when you learn how to Glide and Surf…
