After announcing Divinity last December, Larian Studios decided to answer questions from the community during a discussion with users on Reddit. This was an opportunity to hear from the Belgian company on several important topics.
First of all, we learned, unsurprisingly, that Divinity is currently in full production. Not too long ago, Larian’s CEO Swen Vincke stated that the company was using artificial intelligence to iterate more quickly during this process, which sparked controversy and widespread criticism from fans.
Therefore, the studio has announced that in order “to avoid any ambiguity, we have decided not to use generative AI tools in the development of concept art”. This means there will be no doubt about the origin of the illustrations. However, artificial intelligence is used in several other departments. The aim is to save time and achieve “a more focused development cycle, less waste, and ultimately a better quality game”. No creative elements designed using AI will appear in Divinity.
In addition, Larian has confirmed that co-op will be available from the game’s release and that the game will feature a more comprehensive character creator (colors, options, etc.). The camera will be similar to that of Baldur’s Gate 3, with a hybrid third-person and top-down view.
Finally, a Switch 2 version is likely be in the works.
“We love the platform and will certainly consider Switch 2 for the next Divinity game.”
