Kingdom Hearts coming to Switch 2 as the most unlikely game ever also rumoured

Rumours of more third party games being ported to Nintendo Switch 2 have emerged, including talk of a non-cloud version of Kingdom Hearts 1 through 3.

The question of GTA 6 appearing on Nintendo Switch 2 is something that has come up before. Despite what you might imagine, Rockstar Games and Nintendo have had a very close relationship in the past, with several exclusive Grand Theft Auto games appearing on Nintendo’s various portable formats.

Whether they still get on is hard to tell, as it’s no longer as easy as it was to make a lower budget portable spin-off, but there doesn’t seem to be any technical reason why GTA 5 couldn’t appear on Switch or Switch 2.

That never happened but once again a rumour has emerged saying that GTA 6 will be released on Switch 2, with one source even suggesting it’ll be this year.

Kiwi Talkz and Nash Weedle don’t have the highest success rate in the rumourmill community but they both insist that GTA 6 is coming to Switch 2, although they disagree on whether it’ll be this year or not.

It certainly seems impossible that the Switch 2 could replicate the quality of graphics seen in the GTA 6 trailers but while it’s always possible to simplify visuals, the question is whether Rockstar would want to.

How GTA 6 could work on Nintendo Switch 2

With a PC version still not announced there’s also the issue of when they’d have time to make a Switch 2 version, especially as there’s always a chance the game could be delayed again. But if there is a chance it may be via Sony, of all companies.

Sony’s Power Saver mode for the PlayStation 5 is widely believed to be a trojan horse for a rumoured new PlayStation portable, which will run PlayStation 5 games natively but only with reduced performance, which the Power Saver mode enables.

Games need individual updates to use Power Saver mode and it doesn’t seem unreasonable to imagine that the work done to create one for GTA 6 could also enable a Switch 2 version, with relatively little extra work.

The safest bet by far is that GTA 6 will never appear on Switch 2 but as long as there’s a chance the rumours will no doubt continue.

A much more believable leak, concerning a game being ported to the Switch 2, is that a Kingdom Hearts collection is currently being prepared for the Switch 2.

Versions of the three mainline games have already been released for the Switch 1, but only as a cloud version.

However, according to Attack The Backlog, it’s claimed that a native version of Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece will be released for Switch 2. That would mean (deep breath): Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts 3 + Re Mind, with no need to run them from the cloud.

Unlike GTA 6 that’s a very plausible rumour and fits Square Enix’s plan to make as many of its games multiformat as possible.

It would also be a useful prologue to Kingdom Hearts 4, although the status of that game remains a mystery. It was announced in 2022, with hints that it will feature a Star Wars world, but since then there’s been very few updates and there’s still no clue when it might be released.
