Released last October on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC, King of Meat is a co-op title in which players find themselves at the heart of a fictional TV show set in a crazy fantasy universe.
Despite “mostly positive” reviews on Steam, the game peaked at only 320 concurrent players on Valve’s platform. At the time of writing, 10 people are connected at the same time.
An anonymous source told Insider Gaming that Amazon considers this “a disastrous game launch”. Executives had expected to reach at least 100,000 simultaneous users across all platforms, thanks to a multi-million dollar marketing budget. King of Meat had a dedicated video on the YouTube channel Mr Beast’s Gaming, advertisements on London buses, and even a pilot for an animated TV series.
Faced with this failure, Glowmade studio has begun discussions with its employees about voluntary departures. A dozen people are currently affected. These layoffs come despite reassuring words from management at the beginning of the year, which claimed that the studio would continue its activities without any concerns.
