John Romero still wants to relaunch his shooter canceled by Xbox

Last July, Romero Games announced the cancellation of its FPS, which was previously published by Xbox. Unfortunately, Microsoft had included this title in its budget cuts announced over the summer.

While initial rumors suggested that the studio would be closing, John Romero denied this information and stated that he was looking for a new publisher. In an interview with Game Reactor, the former DOOM and Quake designer reiterated his desire to save the game.

« Well, we’re still figuring out what we’re going to do with our game. We own the license, we own the code, and everything related to the game.

We have a lot of interested companies that are still working with us on this project, because when you develop a game for years and invest, say, $50 million in it, if you change partners, that person gets $50 million for free.

A lot of people want to continue working on a project, and even if it doesn’t come to fruition, you have $50 million worth of assets that you can use to create something else […] To be able to finish the game faster, you already have a lot of resources. »

Romero added that the FPS was halfway through development when it was canceled. A former member of the studio who wished to remain anonymous stated that, for the time being, « everyone is unemployed ».
