A new The Lord of the Rings game is reportedly in development, with a budget of around $100 million, aimed at creating a major open-world action RPG designed to compete with Hogwarts Legacy. The game is said to offer an immersive third-person experience and could breathe new life into the franchise following several recent adaptations that were poorly received.
According to Insider Gaming, and contrary to recent rumors, it is not Warhorse Studios but Crystal Dynamics that is reportedly in charge of the project, alongside the games Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst.
When asked about Warhorse’s projects and the game being developed by Crystal Dynamics, parent company Embracer reiterated that it does not comment on rumors or speculation. Crystal Dynamics also declined to say anything on the matter.
