When announcing the company’s latest financial results, Sony sought to reassure customers about the availability of PS5 stock during this period of memory shortages.
In her statement, the Japanese firm’s CFO, Lin Tao, also mentioned her desire to minimize the impact of the rise in RAM prices by “monetizing” the existing console base. The company will also seek to develop its software and service revenues.
Simply put, while the price of the PS5 may not increase in the near future, it is clear that Sony is seriously considering shifting its efforts to current console owners. Although not entirely impossible, an increase in the price of games seems unlikely at this time. However, PlayStation could compensate by raising PlayStation Plus prices, which would affect several million users.
Sony has not made any announcements on the matter yet.
