Horizon Zero Dawn Meets God of War in New RPG You Can Try Free Now

A new RPG that looks like a mix of Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War has got a free trial available now, and it might be a good thing to chuck on one evening.

If you haven’t heard of it before, Cloudheim from Noodle Cat Games looks like a good mix of Horizon Zero Dawn’s open world with the combat of God of War. Particularly the early entries.

It also seems to have some thematic crossover with the two games, as well. Especially God of War, what with the references to Ragnarok and Odin.

Cloudheim is basically a hack-and-slash game where you rack up combos and use powerful skills to defeat your enemies. It’s available to play either solo or with up to three other players, with various characters and creatures to guide your journey.

As the Steam description for the game reads:

“Rally your friends for spectacular, combo-driven combat in the destructible world of Cloudheim, where the ancient beings lie dormant and corruption spreads. Harness powerful abilities and craft ever-evolving weapons to unlock new skills and devastating combos. Explore mysterious islands and shifting dungeons from your flying turtle base, Odin Shell.”

Well, in case you wanted to check it out, Cloudheim now has a free demo available.

And it appears as though the amount of content available in the demo is actually pretty substantial, judging by the playtime some players have racked up.

“After spending over 25 hours across two tests of Cloudheim, I’m genuinely impressed by how far the game has come since the early beta,” writes one player in the Steam reviews for the demo. “What started as a promising idea has turned into a much deeper and more rewarding experience that’s just plain fun to play.”

“Phenomenal game, didn’t expect to like it a lot,” writes another demo player. “Exploration and combat is pretty good, there’s some aspects of shopkeeper in the game which is awesome. I do hope the movement and controlling our character gets a little revamped. Feels too delayed and would rather have it near instant. Other than that, I’ll be buying on launch.”

Cloudheim is slated for release sometime in 2025, though a concrete release date has not been confirmed yet.

When it does launch, it’ll be going into Early Access. Noodle Cat says this approach will allow it to “implement many changes and even new content based on player feedback,” and that it expects early access to last around “9-12 months”.
