The Horizon Zero Dawn-inspired PS5 open world game from Aurora Studio and Tencent has been canceled, speculation suggests. Light of Motiram, which immediately turned heads because of its resemblance to the Guerrilla Games series, resulted in an ugly legal spat between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Tencent. The lawsuit has now been settled.
PS5 open world game Light of Motiram scrubbed from online storefronts
According to a filing spotted by The Verge, Sony and Tencent reached a “confidential” settlement and the case has been dismissed. Both parties will bear their own legal costs.
“SIE and Tencent are pleased to have reached a confidential resolution and will have no further public comment on this matter,” Tencent told The Verge. “SIE and Tencent look forward to working together in the future.”
Light of Motiram’s online listings have since been scrubbed, leading to speculation that Tencent has backed off from the project.
In its lawsuit, Sony alleged that Tencent had approached the company with a proposal to work on a Horizon spinoff, which it turned down. Not long afterwards, Light of Motiram surfaced, with gameplay and art bearing a striking resemblance to the Horizon series.
Tencent countered that claim by arguing that Horizon itself was inspired by numerous games, and it was one of its subsidiaries that pitched the spinoff, not Tencent’s executives or employees.
Sony didn’t respond to The Verge’s request for comment on the settlement.
