Hollow Knight: Silksong Has a Secret Boss That Will Break Your Heart

Hollow Knight: Silksong has a secret boss named Seth as a tribute to a fan who sadly passed away from cancer in 2019.

I think it’s fair to say that Hollow Knight: Silksong has well and truly delivered, having spent a whopping eight years in development.

Team Cherry finally launched the highly anticipated sequel on 4 September and while its punishing level of difficulty has certainly ruffled some feathers, the vast majority of players are consumed by all that Pharloom has to offer.

Here at GAMINGbible, Ewan Moore awarded the game a score of nine, writing, “Silksong is a game that refuses to be anything other than what it is, an unflinchingly robust and brutal sequel that will push you to your limits. Persevere, and you’ll be able to see past its more frustrating choices to experience one of the greatest games of the year, and a testament to giving developers the time and freedom to realise their visions.”

It’s most definitely a game that rewards the curious, with plenty of secret locales to be unearthed – many featuring unique enemies and boss fights.

One such secret boss fight was made in collaboration with Hollow Knight fan Seth who sadly, as I mentioned, passed away from cancer in 2019 before Silksong could be released.

Prior to his death, Seth worked alongside Team Cherry to bring the boss – named after himself – to life in what is now a poignant and touching tribute.

As reported by Dexerto, this all began when Seth posted to Reddit six years ago under the name of big_boi878.

Seth revealed he was battling Ewing sarcoma and longed to meet the developers of Hollow Knight.

He did more than just that, collaborating with the team on a secret boss and was assured by devs that he’d receive a day-one code so he could face off against his virtual self.

Unfortunately, Seth passed away before the game could launch but his legacy lives on, with fans about to battle virtual Seth in Eastern Greymoor.

It’s not just a simple boss fight either; Seth’s battle is accompanied by touching music and ends in a questline that’ll take you across Silksong’s map.

Seth is also mentioned in the game’s credits.

Since coming to light, the tribute has been praised by players.

“This is more than a game. It’s a reminder that art can carry someone’s soul long after they’re gone. Seth may have lost his battle with cancer, but in Silksong, he lives on; fighting alongside every player who meets him,” wrote Twitter/X user MykeJet.

“What a beautiful way to honour Seth’s memory and keep his love for the game alive forever,” added zeroXhope.

I quite agree. What a lovely tribute that must’ve brought much comfort and joy to Seth during development.
