Highguard Re-Emerges, Launch Showcase With Gameplay Deep Dive, Year 1 Plans, and More Announced

To say that Wildlight Entertainment’s Highguard fell off the radar before it even had a chance to register would be an understatement. But alas, more than a month after its controversial reveal at The Game Awards, the PvP raid shooter has emerged to confirm its January 26th launch with a dedicated showcase.

Airing at 10 AM PT, the developer will offer a “full” deep dive into the gameplay, its Year 1 plans, and “much more.” How are the initial responses thus far? Well, from “Lmao, finally something” to “Ya’ll remembered the password,” they could certainly be worse.

Highguard will be free-to-play on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC on release. Based on the first (and only) trailer, players control Wardens, who wield magic and guns, and compete for the Shieldbreaker. Once equipped, you can bring it to bear against an enemy base, summoning a siege engine for an all-out assault.

Aside from the horses, wall-running, and unique abilities, there is a bit more going on than meets the eye, at least according to the recently revealed PS5 Trophies. You can destroy enemy bases using something called the Anchor Stone, visit vendors to purchase items, and even discover Legendaries – with three equippable at a time.

With Apex Legends and Titanfall leading the charge, can Highguard achieve the impossible and stand out in a crowded multiplayer market? We’ll soon find out.
