Hideki Kamiya is a highly controversial figure in the video game world. We owe him legendary works such as Resident Evil 2 (1998), Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, and Okami. He is currently working on a sequel to the latter.
However, Kamiya is also known for his sometimes rather blunt statements on social media. Since copies of Resident Evil Requiem are already out there, spoilers have obviously been posted online. This is clearly not to the Japanese creator’s liking.
In a message posted on X, he stated that people who share information about the game’s story deserve to “die a thousand deaths”.
“I remember back in the days of Biohazard 2 [Resident Evil 2], I’m pretty sure the ending twist was completely spoiled by a weekly photo magazine.
Out of pure selfishness, you are trampling on the feelings of players who were eagerly awaiting the game, and those of the creators who put their hearts into it.
It is a despicable act that destroys everyone’s happiness—you deserve to die a thousand times. May you be cursed and never be able to play video games again.”
Capcom claims it’s ready to take measures for those who spoil Requiem‘s story ahead of its release on February 27.
