Helldivers 2 Players Spot Apparent Link In Charlie Kirk Shooting

Following the fatal shooting of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk last week, the gaming community is once again facing backlash after a link between his killer and Helldivers 2 has reportedly been established.

The Helldivers game franchise has always featured facism-based satire but now it seems as though Helldivers 2 has entered into real-world politics following the event last week.

Kirk, who was best known for his right-wing opinions, connection to Donald Trump and controversial opinions, was shot and killed in Utah last Wednesday during a stop on his comeback tour.

After a two-day manhunt, the supposed killer has been apprehended and is believed to be 22-year old Tyler Robinson.

It is still unclear as to why Robinson targeted Kirk but in the meantime, investigators have been trying to piece together what sort of person the killer was.

During this, multiple ammunition cases were found on the scene with multiple bullets featuring inscriptions believed to be engraved by Robinson.

Unfortunately, the Helldivers 2 community has found itself dragged into the mess as one unfired bullet featured the following inscription: “Hey, fascist! Catch! ↑ → ↓↓↓”.

To many, these arrows would be a confusing addition but Helldivers 2 players will know that these arrows, when selected in this particular pattern, is the input for the game’s Eagle 500kg Bomb which calls down a 1,100-pound bomb to destroy large amounts of enemies.

It is worth mentioning that the links to Helldivers 2 is only speculation as of right now and has not officially been confirmed by the killer himself.

Following the U.S. health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently drawing attention to the supposed links between violence and video games, it is no wonder that both the Helldivers 2 community and the video game community in general is now trying to distance themselves from Kirk’s killing following unwanted attention.

Since the Utah Governor Spencer Cox shared news on the bullet’s inscription, the moderators over on r/Helldivers have locked the subreddit and it seems as though even the official Discord channel has received a wave of messages which has resulted in the call for developers Arrowhead Game Studios to release a statement.

However, it seems as though the studio is refusing to comment and, at the time of writing, is still yet to release a statement.

Following the shooting, it seems as though the video game community is back under the spotlight with many right-wing politicians linking the hobby to the ever-growing use of real-life violence.
