Receiving remakes or remasters of some of our favourite childhood games is pretty common over recent years but when it comes to the return of Habbo Hotel, many of us did not see that one coming.
And yet it is here.
Well almost.
If you are anything like me, then you would have spent your formative years within the confines of Habbo Hotel with the virtual world and MMORPG first launching its beta way back in 2001.
Allowing players to create virtual avatars known as Habbos, users could interact with other players as well as play mini games, build and design their own virtual rooms, own (and ultimately abandon) pets and even take part in quests.
Habbo Hotel, or sometimes just known as Habbo, became a cultural phenomenon and was the first introduction into the online gaming sphere for many of us.
However, as we grew up, our interest in the game waned and as a result, it has become something of a distant, yet nostalgic, memory.
That being said, Habbo Hotel is back in the form of Habbo Hotel: Origins on Steam.
Developed by Sulake Oy, Habbo Origins: Hotel is a pixel-art social simulation MMO where players will find familiar gameplay.
Create and customise your own avatar, build and decorate rooms, trade items and join community events “in a nostalgic yet ever-evolving virtual world.”
Although it does not yet have a release date, Habbo Hotel: Origins is already attracting new and veteran players alike and the developers hope that you will rediscover the “rush” you first experienced all those years ago when you first logged in to the virtual world.
“Step back into a vibrant pixel universe where familiar faces and fresh surprises await,” the description reads.
“Remember that first rush of logging on, choosing your avatar’s hairstyle, then racing through crowded lobbies? You’ll feel it all over again—only bigger and with brand-new twists.”
With hundreds of new outfits, ranging from classic looks to more modern-day fashion, you will be able to customise your Habbo to your exact specifications and of course, that extends to your living quarters.
Trade rare items at the marketplace to grab furniture for your ever-growing space whether that is a cosy little bedroom or a sprawling party hall.
Habbo Hotel: Origins will feature spontaneous events such as DJ dance parties, pixel treasure hunts and even quests with the emphasis being on “social gaming without the fuss”.
“Honestly, it’s more than nostalgia. It’s a living, breathing community that evolves every season.
Whether you’re reconnecting with old pals or making new ones, there’s always a reason to log back in.”
As mentioned, Habbo Hotel: Origins on Steam has not yet been released but will be launched soon so if you want to return to the familiar online world, make sure you add it to your wishlist now.
