GTA: San Andreas Next-Gen Edition Teaser Drops

GTA: San Andreas Next-Gen Edition Teaser Drops

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is getting a fan-made remaster built in GTA 5’s engine from the same masterminds behind the Vice City next-gen edition.

Now 21 years old, GTA: San Andreas remains one of the most popular Rockstar games of all time, but playing it on modern systems is a bit hit or miss.

The original version was delisted long ago when Rockstar released the Definitive Edition, a modern remaster that was poorly received by the GTA community.

To this day, it’s impossible to play the original version of San Andreas without resorting to emulation or hunting down an old retail copy.

However, a group of fans are taking matters into their own hands, developing a new mod titled Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Nextgen Edition.

It’s from a team called Revolution, the same modders that brought us the Next-Gen edition of Vice City, a remaster built from the ground up in GTA IV’s engine.

Everything from cutscenes, story missions, vehicles and weapons were painstakingly recreated in RAGE (Rockstar Advanced Game Engine, which the developer has been using since 2006).

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – Nextgen Edition is essentially the same deal. All missions, locations, vehicles and weapons will be brought over into RAGE, this time utilising the GTA V version of the engine.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Next-Gen Edition Uses GTA V’s Engine

“Our journey with VCNE has reached a logical conclusion for us,” reads the video description.

“The current version 1.2 is fully playable, as confirmed by hundreds of playthroughs on YouTube.

“The modification has found its place in the community, continues to live its own life, and receives fixes and updates from dedicated enthusiasts—something we are sincerely happy about.

“As for us, we are not standing still. Our team has shifted focus to a new, even more ambitious and large-scale project based on GTA V‘s RAGE Engine. This time, we will be sharing details more cautiously, but we are moving forward and preparing something truly special for you.”

Revolution hasn’t shared other details about the Nextgen Edition of GTA: San Andreas yet, but considering that it’ll be using GTA V’s engine, it’s likely going to have more advanced features.

San Andreas is also a much larger game than Vice City, so it’ll probably also be in development for a lot longer. However, given the scope of the modding team that has increased since the release of Vice City Nextgen Edition, it could also mean the developer is able to scale up and streamline more processes.
