Grand Theft Auto 6 – Rockstar Reportedly Tested for Nintendo Switch 2 Port

Rockstar Games is typically known for supporting home consoles foremost, particularly Xbox and PlayStation, followed by PC. Grand Theft Auto 6 not launching for the latter on day one is proof enough. However, it’s been releasing more titles for Nintendo Switch over the years, like Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.

Red Dead Redemption marks the company’s foray onto the Switch 2, but according to insider NateTheHate, it’s allegedly made efforts to bring GTA 6 over as well. “I said a while ago that Rockstar was doing tests to bring it to Switch 2, but tests don’t always equal release. I know an effort has been made to see if they can bring it to the platform. I don’t know the current state of that effort.”

Of course, as he notes in a follow-up tweet, “Experimenting doesn’t equal ‘in development’ and companies often test to see if a game is possible on hardware.” Then again, that doesn’t mean it won’t ever release either. Look at Capcom, which initially hadn’t planned to port Resident Evil Requiem to the Switch 2 until it internally experimented with Village. Now both titles (and Resident Evil 7: biohazard) are due for the platform next February.

Such experiments are unlikely to have an impact on Grand Theft Auto 6’s overall development, in case you want to blame the Switch 2 for its latest delay. Until there’s an official announcement, the open-world title is still slated for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 on November 19th, 2026.
