Kaznori Yamauchi made a brief appearance during the State of Play Japan stream with a key announcement for Gran Turismo 7. With the GT7 Spec III coming out on 4th December, Polyphony Digital has also prepared a new Power Pack DLC to go alongside.
The Gran Turismo 7 Power Pack is a premium DLC that’s all about bringing fully fledged endurance racing to the popular sim racer for the first time.
This is a pretty big bundle, which will include in its bundle of content:
- 50 new races across 20 themed categories, inspired by global automotive and motorsport traditions.
- 24-hour endurance racing for players who crave the ultimate test of skill and stamina.
- Full race weekends: Practice, qualify, and compete in the main event for a true racing simulation.
- Gran Turismo Sophy 3.0 AI for intense, tail-to-nose battles that push your limits.
- Includes 5,000,000 in-game Credits
This is really for the endurance racing lovers, with a wide array of races that will include country-inspired circuits and some of the most legendary endurance racing events – the 24hrs of Le Mans no doubt included in that, but I’m hoping for a 24hr of Lemons event as well.. Gran Turismo Sophy 3.0 will aim to offer the most taxing AI racing challenge and competition possible through this.
While the Spec 3 update will be free for all players of GT7, the Power Pack will be paid DLC. Pricing has not yet been confirmed.
This is not the first time that full-on 24-hour races have featured as part of a Gran Turismo game. In GT5 you could race a full 24 hour race yourself, and put your B-Spec AI drivers into the mixer for some progression while you’re not actively playing the game, but endurance racing provides different challenges for the racing AI, pit stop strategies and more.
Of course, we’d have loved to have seen longer form racing included in GT7 from the off – it’s often a bit of an afterthought, given the demands i puts on both players, game designers, and testers – but Polyphony should be credited with consistently updating and expanding their games with free content, new tracks and more.
Spec 3 will be a big update for the 2022 racer, with the following new and improved features:
- 2 new tracks (Yas Marina Circuit, Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve)
- 8 new cars
- ‘Dunlop’ tyres
- Data Logger
- Collector Level cap increased
- Unlimited car invitations in Brand Central
- Enhanced Weekly Challenges
- New opening movie
- New Menu Book ‘Seasonal Menu’
- New events in ‘Circuit Experience’
- New Curations in ‘Scapes’
- Improvements to online races

Absolutely! The 24-hour races will definitely add a new layer of challenge and strategy for players. It’s also a great way to showcase the game’s stunning graphics over different times of day, enhancing the overall racing experience.
I agree! The introduction of 24-hour races will not only test players’ endurance but also their pit strategy and car management over time. It’ll be interesting to see how this affects team dynamics in multiplayer modes as well!
