Another notable rumor, one that had more clarity than the God of War remaster/remake reports, was that of a 2.5D side-scrolling platformer focusing on a younger Kratos. Lo and behold, God of War Sons of Sparta turned out to be real, though it’s more of a 2D title. Developed by Mega Cat Studios of Five Nights at Freddy’s: Into the Pit fame, it’s available right now, out of nowhere.

And this isn’t just a younger Kratos, but one who is still very much in his preteen years (with TC Carson serving as narrator). He trains alongside Deimos, his brother. He wields a shield and spear alongside the Gifts of Olympus, a set of artifacts, to smite foes. You can also expect new enemies and creatures based on “untapped facets of Greek mythology” with a story penned by the same team behind the Norse saga.

Available for PS5, God of War Sons of Sparta retails for $29.99 and is available digitally on the PlayStation Store. There’s also a Digital Deluxe Edition, which contains the Arrow of Virtue Spear Attachment, Unstable Gemstone Belt Attachment and a Rusty Scrap for enhancing weapons. You also get some Blood Orbs to buy something nice. That’s in addition to a digital artbook, soundtrack and PSN avatars for $39.99.
