Gigabyte has just released its new high-end eGPU solution: the AORUS AI BOX equipped with an RTX 5090 and Waterforce liquid cooling. Connected via Thunderbolt 5, this external station is aimed at gamers and creators looking for the power of a desktop GPU without a PC tower.
Compact and self-contained, the box includes its own power supply and several ports: Ethernet, USB, and video. However, Notebookcheck tests show lower performance: about 18% slower in synthetic benchmarks and up to 27% slower in gaming compared to an RTX 5090 Founders Edition on a desktop PC.
Sold for $2,999, the same price as the RTX 5090 AORUS Master White, this solution remains aimed at a niche audience. Despite the loss of performance, it offers the flexibility of an external graphics card capable of handling both AI tasks and gaming.
