A new game that’s just cropped up on Steam is a mix of Ghost of Yotei and Stardew Valley, and it’s so cheap right now that it may as well be free.
Sky Traveler is a new game from developer DFRGAMES, and is described as a “simulator of life in the Japanese village,” combining the rural setting of Ghost of Yotei with the cosy life simulation elements of Stardew Valley.
Sky Traveler tasks you with building your own village, where you collect resources, erect structures, and travel between islands to trade and develop.
While not completely free, Sky Traveler is currently available for ÂŁ1.35, much cheaper than the train I took to the office this morning, and certainly looks like a decent way to start the year off in a month that is pretty quiet for video game releases.
At the beginning of the game, there are three islands available for you to get the necessary resources. As you grow vegetables, get stones, or chop firewood, you’ll be able to develop the village, with new levels rewarding you with more ways to grow.
With these new resources, you can improve the buildings in your village, complete quests, or sell them on the market. It all depends on what you decide to do.
Once you’ve finished building up the village, the whole city will open up to you, allowing you to take full advantage of the growth from a small island into a huge metropolis.
In addition to this, there’s also fishing gameplay where you can head out in the local pond to catch fish. Anything you catch can then be sold for gold coins at the local bar.
Sky Traveler Has Many Positive Reviews On Steam
In case you were on the fence about it, there are quite a few positive reviews for the game already on the Steam store page.
“Well done for a single developer,” reads one positive review for Sky Traveler.
“Bought to try and was not disappointed,” reads another review.
“Although I have a very bad attitude towards polygonal graphics, I was interested in the ninja in the video, and the offer to live in the Japanese village intrigued me,” reads a third review. “Simulation game. We run like Naruto, looking for and collecting resources, but everything is somehow slow and strained. But such was life in ancient Japan.”
