Sucker Punch’s latest game Ghost of Yotei has been out for nearly a week, and players are finding all kinds of secrets based on the developer’s previous titles. One of those Easter eggs brings back one of the PS3’s most beloved video game series, which hasn’t seen a new entry since 2014.
What is the PS3 game Easter egg in Ghost of Yotei?
Before discussing the Ghost of Yotei Easter egg, anyone who is trying to remain spoiler-free before playing the game should probably not look beyond this point. There aren’t any story details below, but the Easter egg may be something players will want to see for themselves during their first preview. If not, please continue.
As seen in the tweet below from X (formerly Twitter) user @DomTheBombYT, Ghost of Yotei’s protagonist Atsu is seen in front of a mural, which depicts a fiery, giant, human-like creature facing off against an ordinary, bald man wielding two blades attached to an Escrima stick-sized handle.
To newer PlayStation players, this may just be a cool-looking mural. For players who were around during the PS3 generation, this is an easily recognizable Easter egg of the final boss battle from Infamous 2. The bald man to the right is none other than Cole McGrath, the series’ protagonist. To the left is John White in the form of The Beast.
Does this confirm that the Infamous universe and the Ghost of Yotei universe are one and the same? Probably not. Like all the other Easter eggs present in the game, it’s probably just a fun little nod that fans can enjoy. Still, it’s nice to see some form of Cole in a modern video game.
Beginning with the first entry on PS3 in 2009, the Infamous series includes the three mainline games Infamous, Infamous 2, and Infamous: Second Son. There is also a spin-off (Ã la Spider-Man: Miles Morales) called Infamous: First Light that is a prequel to the third entry, and is the last time Sucker Punch visited its superpowered universe.
