Set in a “kungfupunk” world, this upcoming wuxia action RPG is set to take the world by storm and it now finally has a release date.
Last night’s The Game Awards 2025 was full to the brim with incredible game announcements, some of which we already knew about and others that came as complete surprises.
The game in question in this story may have already been announced back in a 2023 Sony showcase but it has finally received a long-awaited release date and we do not have long to wait at all.
I am of course talking about Phantom Blade Zero, an action RPG developed and published by Chinese studio S-Game.
Phantom Blade Zero follows the story of Soul, an elite assassin who finds themselves in the service of an elusive and powerful organisation known as The Order.
Now with just 66 days left to live, you must fend off assassins, unravel world-ending conspiracies and defend your values with your life… before it is too late.
Set to launch on PC and PlayStation 5, Phantom Blade Zero has already been likened to titles such as Ghost of Tsushima and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice thanks to its high-octane, close-combat fighting and of course, the “soulslike” tag has also been attached.
Inspired by the Golden Age of Hong Kong action films, Phantom Blade Zero combines classic Wuxia storytelling with exhilarating action powered by Unreal Engine 5.

Expect a Story of Betrayal and Desperation
“Framed for the death of his master and left with a ruined heart, Soul has sixty-six days to live,” the official synopsis reads.
“Alone and hunted by his former comrades, he moves through a world of shifting loyalties and silent blades — determined to unravel the conspiracy that has condemned him.
Rain mixes with blood, mercy entangles with vengeance. Soul’s journey is one of love, hate, and the fragile search for what it means to have a heart.”
With shifting realities, echoes of memories long since passed and faced with beings of immense and higher powers, Soul must navigate through a web of lies in order to discover the truth.
Luckily, he will have over 30 weapons to choose from and defeating powerful foes will even allow you to obtain their weapon and make it your own.
“This is Chinese kungfu reimagined for a new generation.”
A brand-new trailer for Phantom Blade Zero was showcased at The Game Awards 2025 alongside that long-awaited release date: 9 September 2026.
So there you have it, there is just under a year to go until we can finally get our hands on this epic action RPG set in a magical “kungfupunk” world.
