Last night, the 98th Academy Awards ceremony honored the best films of the past year. However, the event also sparked a minor controversy in the video game world.
Geoff Keighley, producer and host of The Game Awards, directly criticized the Oscars in a post on X. He criticized the film event for failing to honor his father, David Keighley, who passed away in 2025. He was one of the key contributors to the development of the IMAX format in theaters worldwide.
“So incredibly disappointed and heartbroken that the Oscars and AMPAS chose not to include my father, David Keighley, and his immeasurable contributions to IMAX and cinema in the In Memoriam segment in the broadcast.
I will never forget.”
That being said, David Keighley is mentioned on the Oscars website.
