Free Classic PC Zombie Game is Perfect For Half-Life Players

Classic Half-Life zombie mod Zombie Panic! has just had a re-release on Steam, bringing in a load of new features and updates.

For anyone old enough to remember it, Zombie Panic! was a classic mod for the original Half-Life which pits a team of survivors co-operating towards an objective versus a team of zombies trying to stop them.

If you died as a survivor, you’d be resurrected as a zombie and join the other team working to stop your former teammates from completing the objective. Rounds ended with either the survivors completing their objective, or with all of them being killed.

It was very fun back in the day, with its sequel Zombie Panic! Source also being a great multiplayer game for those who enjoyed betraying their friends.

Games like Contagion and No More Room In Hell have taken its place in the years since, but nothing still beats the original Zombie Panic! mods.

Over 20 years later, Zombie Panic! has now returned and has had a rather hefty update, bringing loads of new features and content to the mod. It’s also completely free.

Zombie Panic! Gets New Release After 20 Years, Hooray

Debuting for the first time on Steam, its developer writes: After more than two decades, we’re very proud to announce the classic survival-horror modification Zombie Panic! is now available to play on Steam!”

It adds: “We wish to thank everyone who has contributed and playtested the mod over the past year, providing it with lots of new content, feedback and fixes that helped us shape this 1.0 Steam release.”

This new edition of the mod restores a lot of the old maps that were available in the original release, along with Steam Workshop support, brand-new characters and weapon types, and more expanded features.

It also has new animations, an updated user interface, and improved functionality to modernise it by 2026 standards. There are also Steam Achievements, for anyone who cares about that stuff.

As it stands, the mod currently has 87% positive reviews on its Steam page. Many reviews are happy to see the game see a second life on Steam following its initial buzz in 2004, and the new features have been welcomed to help ease in newcomers.

If you’d like to check the game out, you can download it from Steam now for free. However, you will need to own a copy of Half-Life in order to play it, which has gone free in the past and is often on sale for just a couple of quid.
