Let’s face it, in the land of fantasy, being a human is the short end of the deal but with this free download for Baldur’s Gate 3, it may not be so bad after all.
When it comes to being able to become an elf, a drow, a halfling, a gnome, a tiefling, a dragonborn or beyond, Baldur’s Gate 3 has quite a few options which will see you leave the human race to the side in order to live out your fantasy dreams.
However, as with many other fantasy RPGs, being a human is still an option and it is this brand-new free download which could make the most vanilla of races the most exciting.
Courtesy of some1namedJess over on Nexus Mods, Homebrew Human Variant introduces not one, but three new sub-races to the human category in Baldur’s Gate 3.
The human variant now has three variants: Civil Militia, Skillful, and Heroic Inspiration.
Civil Militia will reward your character with “Weapon Proficiency with spears, pikes, halberds, and glaives, and Armor Proficiency with light armor and shields” whilst Skillful allows you to choose from two additional skill points.
For Heroic Inspiration, your character will gain the buff after a long rest. The modder has also introduced sub-races based around the Perception, Nimble, and Athletic skills.
This will see players be able to play with fully fleshed-out human characters with the following abilities:
“Perceptive (uses body types 1 & 2 as shown in the image above)
Variant’s Vigor – Your carrying capacity is increased by half.
Perceptive – You are naturally Perceptive. Your Proficiency Bonus is added to any ability check you make that uses Perception.
Level 3 – Variant’s Wisdom – Has Advantage on Wisdom Checks and you gain benefits of See Invisibility.
Nimble (uses body types 1 & 2 as shown in the image above)
Variant’s Vigor – Your carrying capacity is increased by a quarter.
Nimble – You are naturally Stealthy. Your Proficiency Bonus is added to any ability check you make that uses Stealth.
Level 3 – Variant’s Grace – Has Advantage on Dexterity Checks and you are unaffected by Difficult Terrain.
Athletic (uses body types 3 & 4 as shown in the image above)
Variant’s Vigor – Your carrying capacity is doubled.
Athletic – You are naturally athletic. Your Proficiency Bonus is added to any ability check you make that uses Athletics.
Level 3 – Variant’s Strength – Has Advantage on Strength Checks and you can’t be Restrained.”
Perfect for beginners
Not only is this an exciting way to play a race you may never normally choose, but it is also a great mod for those just starting out with Baldur’s Gate 3 or Dungeons & Dragons in general.
Picking abilities, classes, and races can be quite difficult if you are new to the genre as a whole, so this PC mod will definitely cut out all of the confusion.
