Gamers have been hoping for a remaster of Fallout: New Vegas for years, and if this fan theory proves true, it looks more likely than ever.
The Fallout series made its debut in 1997 on PC and instantly became one of the most popular RPG franchises of all time, long before Bethesda acquired the license from Interplay Entertainment.
Don’t get me wrong, the isometric/trimetric era was fantastic, but when Bethesda released Fallout 3 in 2008, which gave the players the choice of exploring the post-apocalyptic wasteland in first-person and third-person, the series was instantly taken to new heights.
The most recent entry in the series is 2015’s Fallout 4, originally released on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, before receiving its long-awaited free new-gen update in April 2024.
It’s fair to say that for the most part, the Fallout series has released banger after banger over the years, and you’d be hard-pressed to pick out a definitive favourite. Even the once-troubled MMORPG spin–off, Fallout 76, has made a triumphant comeback, like a phoenix rising from the ashes.
Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas Are Two of the Best!
If I were to pick out a couple of favourites, Fallout 3 would be at the top of my list, followed by 2010’s Fallout: New Vegas. Interestingly, Fallout: New Vegas started life as an expansion to Fallout 3, which makes its success all the more impressive.
In recent months, we’ve heard rumours that Fallout 3 is in line for an official remaster, similar to 2025’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. However, as awesome as that would be, we’d also love a Fallout: New Vegas remaster, and one fan speculates that it could be on the way soon.
“My theory: the datamined Legate Lanius armour from Fallout 76 will be used in, and was originally created for, the Fallout 3/Fallout: New Vegas remasters,” claimed Redditor VewVegas-1221.
“The armour’s graphical style and texture quality do not look like FO76/FO4’s style. It looks distinctly Unreal Engine 5 in nature, just like the Oblivion remaster. What do you think?” they concluded.
Fellow members on the thread were keen to weigh in on the rumoured Fallout: New Vegas remaster.
“*heavy breathing* This is the first I’ve heard of this,” declared TomBobabill.
That being said, understandably, there is a lot of scepticism, and to be fair, that scepticism may hold more truth than not.
“Sure, buddy, it’s definitely not just for a cheap gimmick microtransaction,” said Puzzleheaded_Air8861.
“The optimist in me wants this to mean it’s remastered assets,” replied ImNakedWhatsUp.
“The cynic in me thinks this is just them cashing in on the second season of the TV series.”
To be optimistic, I like to think that Bethesda will release remasters of either Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas one day.
Yet, I don’t think this cosmetic item, which is the topic of this article, has anything to do with it.
In related news, the second season of Amazon’s Fallout live-action series premiered last week, and its next episode arrives this Wednesday on Christmas Eve.
