Bethesda’s still not said anything official about a Fallout 3 remaster, but it looks like the release date has been leaked as this summer.
At this point, the Fallout 3 remaster is common knowledge and all that’s left is for Bethesda to admit it exists. Fans hoped last month’s mystery countdown was building up to an announcement, but instead all they got was a boring teaser for the next season of the TV show.
Fallout 5 is still many years away, so it’s only a surprise that Bethesda hasn’t tried to capitalise on the TV show’s success with a new release already. Especially, as they’re unlikely to be developing it themselves.
The success of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered will certainly have incentivised more remasters and it seems a recent discovery has finally revealed when the Fallout 3 remaster is going to be released.
Fans have discovered that a listing from McFarlane Toys, for a new seven inch T-45B Nuka Cola figure, reveals much more than it intended, even though the image appears to be just a placeholder.
The listing specifically labels the figure as being from Fallout 3 Remastered, instead of just Fallout 3, with an expected release date of August 31 this year. Naturally, the assumption is that this figure will release to coincide with the remaster, pointing to a summer release window.

If anything the toy is more likely to release after the game, so the August release date may be a conservative estimate. Either way, after Forza Horizon 6 in May, Microsoft doesn’t have a new scheduled release until Fable in the autumn, with the Halo: Combat Evolved remake and Gears Of War: E-Day still lacking exact dates.
At the very least, the remaster should be formally announced by then since it wouldn’t make any sense to release a Fallout 3 Remastered figure if the game hasn’t been announced yet.
It’s not uncommon for licensed toys and merch to spoil upcoming releases dates. It happens all the time with movies and this isn’t the first time it’s spoiled video game secrets either.
The better question is whether Bethesda will repeat its strategy for the Oblivion remaster and just shadow drop the Fallout 3 one. It most likely will, since the Oblivion remaster soared to the top of sales charts shortly after launch and Bethesda has a long history of trying to avoid reviews.

Last year, Bethesda Game Studios director Tom Mustaine implied that more shadow drops were being considered and that ‘boss man’ Todd Howard had ‘wanted to shadow drop things for a long time.’
Speaking with GamesRadar, Mustaine said, ‘It is an interesting strategy… I don’t have any ideas of what would be next, but I hope it’s not the last. Personally, I think it was great to own the internet for that day and, you know, give people exactly what they want the moment we talk about it.’
Aside from Fallout 3 Remastered, it’s rumoured there are multiple Fallout projects in development, including a remaster for fan favourite entry Fallout: New Vegas.
