Epic Games and Unity announce an unexpected partnership

Despite being rivals when it comes to the game engine market, Epic Games and Unity have decided to team up in a “truly unique collaboration” that will allow them, for example, to offer Unity-based games directly in Fortnite.

Tim Sweeney, Epic’s CEO, has stated that starting in 2026, developers will be able to publish their productions designed using the Unity engine in Fortnite. This will be possible thanks to a “truly incredible network technology” designed by Unity.

“We recently sat down with Unity and realized we share a common vision of the need to support fair and open digital platforms… just as in the early days of the web, we believe companies must work together to build open and interoperable systems.”

Just as in the early days of the web, we believe that companies must collaborate to build an open, interoperable, and fair metaverse. By working with Unity, we are helping developers create entertaining games, reach a wider audience, and achieve success.”

For his part, Matt Bromberg, CEO of Unity, said he was “delighted to be working with Epic Games to create more opportunities for game developers around the world”. Further details about this partnership will be announced shortly.
