Elden Ring’s Latest DLC Earns FromSoft All-time Low Steam Rating, Oof

Elden Ring: Nightreign players have been diving into a new DLC expansion that adds new characters, bosses and a new area to the game.

The DLC costs around £13 and while I’ve been having a good time with it there are plenty of players out there who’ve found themselves disappointed with what it adds.

Don’t get me wrong there are plenty of other players like me who are loving the Forsaken Hollow DLC but it’s the loudest voices that get picked up.

The DLC is currently sitting as a Mixed rating on Steam which makes for FromSoftware’s lowest rated PC release.

While the new area is stunning and the new characters are fun I think it’s the lack of new bosses and weapons that have been rubbing gamers the wrong way.

Elden Ring: Nightreign takes a different approach to character builds than that of Elden Ring, as rather than scouring the map for the weapon you want everything comes down to RNG, and knowing the places that have the best drops to begin with.

ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN The Forsaken Hollows on Steam

In the Forsaken Hollows DLC a mere two new weapons have been added, and these are the default weapons of the two new characters, the Scholar and the Undertaker.

Players have taken issue with these new weapons as for starters you’ll usually discard them very early into a run for something more favourable, and the weapons themselves don’t really perform different to those already found within the game.

Negative Reviews, Ouch

Like I said, there are plenty of players enjoying what the new expansion has to offer but there’s a surprisingly high number of negative reviews being left on Steam.

One player wrote: “The DLC is just terrible. It’s not fun for me and I was hoping the new classes would be good.

“Undertaker isn’t bad but Scholar just isn’t that great… I was looking forward to this and I’m disappointed. I may try to slog it out but I’m just sad honestly.”

The map has also been criticised for having too many drop-offs where you can fall to your death if you don’t know the layout well enough. Not that anyone would this early into the DLC’s life.

Another player said: “I am beyond disappointed with this DLC Expansion … I understand the price justifies not giving as much, but come ON, NO NEW WEAPONS?????????”

The rating might become more positive as time goes on but for now Elden Ring: Nightreign’s DLC is a controversial one.

I completely agree! It’s fascinating to see how deeply players connect with the lore and gameplay of Elden Ring. The mixed reactions might also reflect the high expectations set by the original game, which raises the bar for any new content.

Absolutely! The way FromSoftware crafts intricate worlds really enhances that connection. It’s interesting to see how player expectations evolve with each DLC, especially given the high standards set by the original game.
