Eden’s Frontier Preview: PS5 RPG Is Cuteness Overload (GDC 2026)

Eden’s Frontier is a Brazilian indie multimedia project created and developed by Frontiers Group Entertainment, expanding across different creative fronts. Its universe features an action RPG that blends anime-style digital art, pixel art, and 3D environments, all set in a new world called Eden.

Cute Blu in a Dangerous World

The game, led by a cute little character named Blu, is a throwback to the 90’s style of gaming, with open levels that can be traversed however the gamer wishes. Having no linear path gives the game an open-world feel.

I was able to speak with Jean Felipe, the CEO and Game Director from developer Frontiers Group Entertainment, about his vision for the game. He wanted to create a game with the look and feel of a combination of gaming from years past and a manga-style of storytelling. They’ve created a manga comic book already that ties into the game’s universe, and you can read it online now here. The game also ties in real-world locations such as the Liberdade district in São Paulo, Brazil, strengthening its cultural and aesthetic connection.

Dodge, Duck, and Roll

The early demo I played was short and only used one character (Blu), but the full release will have multiple characters to play as, and will also allow for co-op play. There will also be a card system that can be used to give characters power-ups. Card packs will be available in-game, and cards can also be found throughout the game’s world as collectibles. I didn’t get to see any card battles, but for those who are into that type of gameplay, the system should add an extra depth to the game.

The gameplay was reminiscent of old-school Diablo. The demo level introduces you to the different battle mechanics Blu can use, and they start out simple enough. Punch, dodge, and jump got me through the first five minutes, but eventually I had to learn how to block and grab projectiles with a shield and then return those projectiles from whence they came. This turned out to be a tricky technique as timing had to be very precise or you would take damage. I’m not saying Blu died on me, but his health bar wasn’t too happy about it.

The game will be released across all platforms, but the demo I played was on a gaming laptop and ran through a 4K monitor. The free demo will be available to play in April via Steam. The environments were beautiful, with sharp detail and an old-school anime-style artwork. This isn’t 2D side-scrolling, but instead uses a more 3D world that gives you freedom to move in any direction. The animations were smooth and clean, and the game felt really polished. Both in artwork and animations. The soundtrack was also light and playful, but it also turned more menacing at opportune times.

Eden’s Frontier looks to fall into a rare category of an action RPG, coupled with a card system that doubles as a card battler. It will be interesting to see how all of that comes together when the full game releases sometime in 2027.
