Like other companies, Electronic Arts has invested heavily in generative artificial intelligence. The American company has even made its use mandatory… which has exasperated some of its teams.
In an article published by Business Insider, we learn that EA has spent the entire past year encouraging its 15,000 employees to use AI for everything and anything. It is used in creative sectors in particular, but also in more sensitive areas such as compensation and promotions.
Anonymous employees have reported that the company’s internal chatbot, called « ReefGPT », is the source of many problems that they then have to fix. Faulty code, bugs, and other « hallucinations » are mentioned. Developers have to train this AI on a daily basis and believe that their jobs will be eliminated once it becomes as efficient as they are. A former Respawn Entertainment employee believes that artificial intelligence was the reason for his dismissal.
Furthermore, the subject is the source of mockery on a Slack channel reserved for EA teams. Employees mock CEOs who want to use AI without a specific goal.
« A meme posted last month on a Slack channel for Electronic Arts employees shows a cartoon character asking three CEOs what they want. They respond in unison: « AI! » Then the man asks, « AI to do what? » The CEOs reply, « We don’t know! » The man continues, « When do we want it? » The CEOs applaud again: « Right now! » Dozens of employees at the video game company responded with laughing and crying emojis. »
