Dynamic pricing could create significant disparities between PlayStation Store users

It’s now official: Sony intends to implement dynamic pricing on the PlayStation Store. There is a test currently underway with a sample group of users.

This week, the website Insider Gaming spotted a new sign of this practice. Indeed, on the U.S. PlayStation Store, Stellar Blade is part of a promotion allowing everyone to purchase it for $39.89 (a 43% discount). However, one of the site’s editors was offered the same game on the same day for $20.99 (a 70% discount). The price difference amounts to nearly 50%.

For now, this seems to apply only to games published by PlayStation. We currently don’t know what factors are taken into account to apply a larger discount to a specific player profile. Elements such as the age of the PSN account, the date of the last login, or even purchasing habits could be being analyzed.
